For an Orphan

Watching Fargo,

hearing the winter

in your vowels, seeing

the foster home you fled

in western Minnesota.

On screen, the sutures of

frozen roads are stitching

memory to fist.

Even the fields are beaten.

Issue One

          August 2016

Mother

at eighty-six

she has shrunk

to well below five feet

a gnome or elf,

spirit

from a tale that starts

“Once upon a time,

they never ran out of time.”
